And that gave us an idea for summer ☀️

Welcome to the #FreshSummerTour

Where to Go on a Road Trip in Finland with GoMore This Summer?

Finland is home to around 5.6 million people but even more forests, lakes and scenic roads that make you want to slow down. Summer here is all about swimming, saunas and long, bright evenings by the water.

Fun fact: Finland has more than 3 million saunas. That’s almost one sauna for every two residents.

Helsinki: Finnish Design, Saunas and Nature Escapes

Helsinki is the perfect starting point to discover Finland’s creative, seaside lifestyle. Between waterfront saunas, islands just a short ferry ride away, design cafés and historic market halls, the capital is best enjoyed at a relaxed pace.

In August, Flow Festival transforms the Suvilahti district into a huge playground for music, art and food lovers before giving way to Helsinki Design Week in late August and early September.

💡 Our tip: Start your day with a sauna and a swim at Löyly or Allas Sea Pool, then hop in your GoMore car and drive to Nuuksio National Park, less than an hour away, for a true Finnish forest escape.

🚗 Recommended starting point: Rent a car in Helsinki and drive to Nuuksio National Park (around 35 km, approximately 40–50 minutes). For a seaside escape, continue to Porvoo (around 50 km, approximately 45 minutes).

The Finnish Archipelago: Hiking, Cycling and Coastal Roads

Turku is the perfect gateway to Finland’s spectacular archipelago.

From the city, it’s easy to reach Ruissalo, known for its forests, beaches and the Ruisrock Festival in early July, before setting off along the famous Archipelago Trail a spectacular route connecting islands by bridges and ferries.

It’s the kind of road trip where you don’t drive very far, but discover an incredible amount along the way. 😉

💡 Our tip: Don’t try to do everything in one day. Spend a night on one of the islands, enjoy a lakeside sauna, dinner by the water and the endless Nordic summer evenings.

🚗 Recommended starting point: Rent a car in Turku and reach Ruissalo in just 15–20 minutes. To begin the Archipelago Trail, drive towards Parainen (around 25 km, approximately 30 minutes).

Hanko: Beaches, Wooden Villas and Seaside Summer Vibes

Located at Finland’s southern tip, Hanko feels like a Nordic seaside resort, with long sandy beaches, wooden villas, harbour cafés and a wonderfully relaxed summer atmosphere.

In early July, the Hanko Regatta brings sailing enthusiasts and holidaymakers together, making it the perfect destination for anyone looking to combine beaches with mild Nordic temperatures.

💡 Our tip: End your day sitting on the seaside rocks with snacks picked up in town. Simple, authentic and just as memorable as the French Riviera.

🚗 Recommended starting point: Rent a car in Helsinki and drive to Hanko (around 130 km, approximately 1 hour 45 minutes to 2 hours). It also combines perfectly with a stop in Turku for a scenic loop along Finland’s southern coast.

Tampere: Lakes, Public Saunas and Urban Swimming Spots

Tampere is perfect for travellers who want to combine culture, lakes and outdoor activities.

The city is famous for its public saunas, urban swimming spots, covered market hall, museums and free outdoor concerts held throughout parks and cultural venues until the end of August.

It’s an easy-going destination that perfectly captures the Finnish way of life: simple, relaxed and always close to the water.

💡 Our tip: Try the ultimate local experience: a sauna at Rauhaniemi, followed by a swim in the lake and, if the schedule lines up, a free outdoor concert in the evening.

🚗 Recommended starting point: Rent a car in Tampere and drive to Seitseminen National Park (around 55 km, approximately 1 hour). Or stay closer to town and head to Lake Pyhäjärvi within minutes.

Savonlinna: Castles, Opera and a Lake District Road Trip

Savonlinna is one of the highlights of Finland’s Lake District.

The drive winds through forests, bridges, wooden villages and beautiful views over Lake Saimaa before reaching Olavinlinna Castle, home to the famous Savonlinna Opera Festival every July.

Even if opera isn’t your thing, the setting alone a medieval castle surrounded by water is unforgettable.

💡 Our tip: Combine an evening at the opera festival with a kayaking trip or a cruise on Lake Saimaa the following day. If you’re lucky, you may even spot the incredibly rare Saimaa ringed seal.

🚗 Recommended starting point: Rent a car in Helsinki and drive to Savonlinna (around 335 km, approximately 4–4½ hours). Break up the journey with stops in Lappeenranta or Mikkeli.

Finnish Lapland: Experience the Midnight Sun in Summer

Finnish Lapland is the ultimate destination for escaping the summer heat.

Here, summer is spent outdoors: hiking, lakes, rivers, forests, saunas and evenings under a sun that barely sets.

It’s also one of the best places in Europe to experience the magical Midnight Sun in July.

💡 Our tip: Choose a base such as Rovaniemi, Inari or Levi, but keep your itinerary flexible. In Lapland, the best moments often happen when you stop beside a lake you hadn’t planned to visit.

🚗 Recommended starting point: Rent a car in Rovaniemi and drive to Pyhä-Luosto National Park (around 130 km, approximately 1 hour 30 minutes). For an even more remote adventure, head to Inari (around 325 km, approximately 4 hours).

Oulu: 2026 European Capital of Culture and Air Guitar

Oulu might just be Finland’s most unexpected road trip stop.

As the European Capital of Culture 2026, the city blends seaside scenery, cycling culture, alternative art and wonderfully quirky events.

At the end of August, the famous Air Guitar World Championships perfectly capture the local spirit: slightly absurd, impressively organised and completely unforgettable.

💡 Our tip: Rent a bike to explore Oulu like a local, then use your car to discover Nallikari Beach or the wilder landscapes of Hailuoto Island.

🚗 Recommended starting point: Rent a car in Oulu and reach Nallikari in just 10–15 minutes. For a full-day adventure, drive to Hailuoto (around 55 km including the ferry crossing, approximately 1½–2 hours depending on ferry times).
