Installing Getaround Connect
Eligibility
For cars registered in France, Belgium, Germany, Austria, Norway & Spain:
Cars respecting the following criteria can be installed with Getaround Connect:
The car must not be older than 12 years and its mileage must be inferior to 150 000 km and 200 000 km for vans. The Getaround Connect device will be uninstalled when your vehicle is over 14 years old and has reached 200,000 km (230,000 km for commercial vehicles).
Accessible by a pedestrian (i.e. : no closed parking)
Mobile internet coverage (Getaround Connect technology works thanks to internet coverage).
System of centralized opening and closing of the car on every car door
Available at least 15 days and 2 weekends per month
Use petrol, diesel or electricity to run. LPG fuelled cars are not compatible with Getaround Connect.
The car must have its final registration card
Be parked in one of these cities (see list below)
- FRANCE: Agen, Aix-les-bains, Aix-en-Provence, Ajaccio, Amiens, Angers, Angoulême, Annecy, Annemasse, Arles, Avignon, Bayonne, Béziers, Biarritz, Bordeaux, Brest, Briançon, Caen, Cannes, Chambéry, Clermont-Ferrand, Dax, Dijon, Dunkerque, Figari, Fréjus, Grenoble, Guingamp, La Rochelle, Le Havre, Le Mans, Lille, Limoges, Lorient, Lyon, Mâcon, Marignane, Marseille, Metz, Montélimar, Montpellier, Mulhouse, Nancy, Nantes, Narbonne, Nice, Nîmes, Orléans, Paris/Ile-de-France, Pau, Perpignan, Poitiers, Quimper, Reims, Rennes, Roubaix, Rouen, Saint-Brieuc, Saint-Étienne, Saint-Jean-de-Luz, Hendaye, Saint-Malo, Saint-Nazaire, Strasbourg, Toulon, Toulouse, Tours, Troyes, Valence, Valenciennes, Vannes

- BELGIUM: In Bruxelles and its suburbs, Antwerp, Ghent and Liege.
- SPAIN: In Madrid, Valencia, Barcelona, Sevilla, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca.
- NORWAY: Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim, Stavanger, Tromsø, Drammen, Asker, Sandvika og Lysaker.
NB: Certain car models respect these conditions but are not compatible with the Getaround Connect technology.
The owner must also meet the following conditions:
You must have two sets of keys to the car

Free vs Paid Areas for Getaround Connect installs
If eligible, Getaround Connect offers two installation options depending on your location:
Free Areas
In these high-demand locations, Getaround covers 100% of the installation, uninstallation, and maintenance costs. These areas usually have consistent, year-round demand, ensuring a profitable return for both owners and Getaround. Common locations include urban centers, tourist destinations, train stations, and airports.
Paid Areas
In these areas, connect installs are possible but we ask owners to contribute to the installation cost, while Getaround covers uninstallation and maintenance. The exact price of installation varies by location and may change based on demand levels.
To find out whether your car is currently located in a free or paid area (and to know the installation price at a given time), you will need to go through the car registration process.
How to install
- From your Getaround account, create a car listing or request Getaround Connect from your existing listing.
- Then, follow the steps and check all the items in the checklist to complete your listing and confirm your Connect eligiblity by replying to a few questions.
- You will be required to enter your credit card information to pay for your 25€/19€/kr250 monthly Connect subscription.
- Depending of your location, we will either invite you to call directly our installation partner or someone from Getaround will reach out to you to fix a date of installation.
- A security deposit of 120€ (kr1200) will be requested for each car and will be refunded to you upon uninstallation of the device.
- An installation lasts 1.5 hours on average, you need to be on site at the beginning and end of the operation to hand over the keys.
What do I do after install?
Activate Getaround Connect
The Getaround Connect device will be activated post installation if all the items of the checklist are checked:
- Quality photos
- Pickup and return Instructions
- Payment method
- Updated Calendar
Your monthly subscription will start on the day Getaround Connect is installed on your car. More info on the subscription.
Once activated, your Getaround Connect dashboard allows you to:
- Lock and unlock your car.
- Locate your car via GPS (while it’s not in a rental) if your car is located in a place with network coverage
You can access this dashboard by going to Your cars, then finding the installed Getaround Connect car and selecting locate/lock/unlock.
Manage Your Rentals
To prepare your rentals, be sure to:
- Leave the car key in the glovebox.
- Keep your calendar updated at all times to avoid any cancellations.
- Always lock/unlock your car using the Getaround app. (If you lock the car by key, the next driver won’t be able to unlock it at the start of their rental.)
