Preparing for a rental

Article mis à jour le 14/11/2024

What should I do before the rental starts ?

1) Check if your car is in good condition and doesn’t present any risk for the driver :

  • Routine inspection up to date
  • Tire condition and inflation is checked
  • Maintenance and oil change ( + levels of your brake fluid, antifreeze, engine oil and windscreen washer etc...)
  • Safety equipments : triangle and safety vests

2) Place in your glovebox :

  • A copy of your car registration document
  • A copy of your insurance card
  • Driver’s instructions and damage report accessible from Your rentals > Selected rental > Glovebox documents.

3) If you don’t have a smartphone, you can rent with a paper agreement, print the paper agreement before meeting with the driver. Otherwise, you can download the Getaround app.

What do I need to do when I meet the driver?

For a Getaround Connect rental, you do not have to meet the driver. Getaround will perform the necessary checks.

For a Key Exchange rental, drivers must:

  • Be present at check-in
  • Show their original licence (not a photocopy). The main driver’s licence must have the same last name, first name, licence number and 'Valid from' date as on the agreement.
  • Have held their licence for the required number of years and be old enough for the car category. Find out more.

Before the rental starts, you should carry out an inspection of the car through the app. Go you Your Rentals > choose the selected rental and then click on inspect your car and follow the instructions in the app.

When you meet with the driver to exchange the keys, it is essential that they complete the walkaround inspection and complete all checkin steps before you handover the keys to ensure that the insurance coverage is in place.

NB: If one of the elements above is incorrect, you must cancel the rental, as the insurer will refuse to provide cover for the rental if there are any problems. You will receive compensation in accordance with our cancellation policy.

What do I need to do at the end of the rental?

If a driver is planning to return later than planned, they must modify their rental request so that our insurer can extend the cover period. The driver will complete the check-out steps on their smartphone, including declaring the km driven, and fuel level so that any adjustments can be made automatically by Getaround.
